Look at how the left hand appears to be almost under the club without any knuckles visible on the left hand at all.
This grip is described as weak. Weak, does not relate to the grip pressure on the club, but to the actual position of the hand. In this position, the left hand is restricting the natural release of the hands to impact, in fact the hand is working against the natural movement, therefore, making it almost impossible to square the clubface and hit the ball straight
WHAT DOES THE WEAK GRIP DO? = Open Clubface
As described before, the weak grip limits the hand action to impact, not allowing the clubface to turn onto the ball and hit the ball straight.
Instead, what happens is that the clubface is open (looking right with extra loft) so the resulting shot is a powerless slice or push, that goes neither very far or very straight.
HOW DO I HIT IT STRAIGHTER & FURTHER? = Get a Grip! (re-position the left hand)
You can clearly see from this image that the left hand has been re-positioned, we can see three knuckles on the top of the left hand and thumb/index finger line is now parallel to that of the right hand.
The hands can now work together, rotating the clubface onto the back of the ball.
WANT YOUR GOLF TO FEEL EASIER? = Be more efficient
By improving your left hand grip, the clubface will rotate to square (looking at the target) at impact naturally.
With the clubface square, you are performing more efficiently, the ball stores more power (unlike a glancing blow) it will travel faster off the clubface therefore going further and straighter.
